Carpal Tunnel Syndrome refers to a group of symptoms that occur when the median nerve (the nerve that runs from the forearm into the palm of the hand) becomes pressed or squeezed at the wrist. This happens when the tendons inside the Carpal Tunnel become thickened or irritated and press on the median nerve. For many individuals, the pain and other symptoms caused by Carpal Tunnel Syndrome make it difficult to work and perform normal activities. Our treatments are focused on treating the cause of the symptoms, improving functionality and preventing symptoms from occurring in the future. Using the most advanced and minimally invasive treatments possible, we are able to help patients with Carpal Tunnel find relief from their pain and other symptoms so they can return to full function.

Symptoms of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

In most cases, the symptoms of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome start gradually and include a frequent burning, tingling or itching numbness in the palm of the hand and the fingers. Often, the symptoms will first appear at night, since most people sleep with flexed wrists. As the symptoms worsen or if it is left untreated, it can cause pain and decreased grip strength, making it difficult to form a fist or to grasp small objects.

What Causes Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?

What causes Carpal Tunnel Syndrome? In many cases, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is caused by a combination of factors that increase pressure on the median nerve. In some cases, individuals are simply born with a smaller Carpal Tunnel. Mechanical problems in the wrist joint, fluid retention during pregnancy, trauma or injury to the wrist, Rheumatoid Arthritis and performing repetitive motions with the hand and wrist can also contribute to Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. Regardless of the cause, early diagnosis and treatment is important to avoid permanent damage to the median nerve.

Surgery was a success my left knee is fully functional again. Langer and his staff was very helpful through this entire process they assigned me a top physical therapist Cara which was great at helping me to improve now just up to me to continue to condition myself back to the way I was physically before the injury and hopefully I never have to endure any future injuries that lead to surgery. Overall a great help and experience after surgery was completed. Thank You to Langer and his staff.

Ortho Sport & Spine Physicians are excellent in the work they do. They take their time with each patient and make sure you walk away with an understanding of exactly what you're going through. I have been a patient here twice and I could 100% assure you that you will have a great experience. Further the physicians are very knowledgeable and experienced at what they do. Moreover, the entire staff are welcoming and accommodating to your needs. I work in Entertainment, and have appeared several times on television (Google "David Wells and Ricky Johnson). I recommend and trust Ortho Sport & Spine Physicians.

Hitting the Funny Bone Isn’t Funny

There is nothing hilarious about whacking your funny bone. In fact, the funny bone is not a bone. It is called that because of the funny – as in hard to describe – feeling you get when that part of the elbow is hit. What you are actually hitting is the ulnar nerve that runs from your neck to your hand. This nerve innervates muscles in the forearm and hand. The end of the nerve has two branches. The little finger and half the ring finger are innervated by these branches.

Three Things You Need to Know About Hip Impingement

That pain in your hip may be signaling a problem with your hip joint that, left unattended, could lead to damage. Hip impingement, also known as Femoroacetabular impingement, is a condition in which the bones of the hip joint do not move smoothly, and the range of motion is impaired.
