Kyphoplasty Surgery Atlanta, GA

When osteoporosis attacks the spine, it can weaken the vertebrae, allowing compression fractures to occur in the spine. These small fractures can cause intense back pain and allow for deformities and other issues for the patient. At Ortho Sport & Spine Physicians, our spine specialists offer many treatments for osteoporosis of the spine to relieve pain and improve function, including kyphoplasty surgery for spine compression fractures.

Spine compression fractures generally occur in the upper or mid-back region, or the thoracic spine. These fractures impact the shape and strength of the vertebrae, which can cause pain and result in changes to the shape of the spine. If left untreated, a hump of the spine can occur, which can affect height and even put pressure on internal organs. Kyphoplasty surgery offers an option to strengthen vertebrae that have compression fractures, reducing pain and helping reduce the chance of other symptoms.

Performing Spine Compression Fracture Treatment

Kyphoplasty surgery involves inserting a bone cement into the fractured vertebra to offer support and strength. To access the affected vertebra, a small incision is made at the point of the fracture, usually about a half-inch in diameter. Specialized tools are used to create a cavity inside the vertebra to restore it to its original height if it has collapsed due to the fracture. Once enlarged, bone cement is injected inside the vertebra, which hardens quickly. The incision is closed, and the patient can usually go home the same day.

For those with spine compression fractures, kyphoplasty can offer a quick and minimally invasive option to relieve pain and prevent spine deformities from osteoporosis. If you have been suffering due to pain from a spinal compression fracture, contact us today to schedule an exam and consultation with one of our spine specialists at Ortho Sport & Spine Physicians. We have several facilities throughout the U.S.

Surgery was a success my left knee is fully functional again. Langer and his staff was very helpful through this entire process they assigned me a top physical therapist Cara which was great at helping me to improve now just up to me to continue to condition myself back to the way I was physically before the injury and hopefully I never have to endure any future injuries that lead to surgery. Overall a great help and experience after surgery was completed. Thank You to Langer and his staff.

I have been a patient here twice and I could 100% assure you that you will have a great experience. Further the physicians are very knowledgeable and experienced at what they do. Moreover, the entire staff are welcoming and accommodating to your needs. I work in Entertainment, and have appeared several times on television (Google "David Wells and Ricky Johnson).
