Your gait is the way you walk or move on your feet. It refers to the locomotion that you achieve through the movement of your limbs. If your gait is abnormal it could be due to many reasons such as illness, genetic factors, injury or abnormalities in your legs or feet.
Carpal tunnel syndrome is a painful condition of the hand, wrist and fingers. If you have this condition, inflamed carpal ligaments in the wrist are causing pressure on your median nerve.
Your carpal ligaments can become inflamed due to one of the many possible factors:
- Wrist damage or injury
- Fluid retention
- Work stress
- Certain strenuous wrist activities
Your symptoms for carpal tunnel may include:
- You could have tingling or numbness of your fingers or your hand
- Most likely you will have pain starting in the wrist and extending to the arm or shoulder or the palms or fingers
- You will likely experience a general sense of weakness
- You may have difficulty grasping small objects
While you are not born with carpal tunnel syndrome, you may be more prone to it. If you were born with a smaller carpal tunnel, you are more likely to experience carpal tunnel syndrome at some point in your life. If you know you are more prone to getting carpal tunnel syndrome you can do things to help prevent it. You can relax your grip on things you commonly hold. You may also reduce the force in which your commonly perform tasks.
At Ortho Sport & Spine we can help you do further strengthening exercises to prevent carpal tunnel syndrome. We can also help you recover quickly through your pain you’re experiencing due to your carpal tunnel syndrome. Book your appointment with us today.
